Sue Kavanagh has been appointed corporate secretary of PharmaGap Inc. Ms. Kavanagh is manager of corporate services at Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP, with more than 30 years of experience in corporate and securities law. She has acted, and continues to act, as corporate secretary for numerous private and public corporations.

Week of June 22

John Hagerman has been named vice-president of business development for Neterion Inc. Mr. Hagerman most recently led Chelsio Communications' business development efforts. In addition to his role at Chelsio Communications, his extensive experience includes management responsibilities in marketing and business development at large publicly traded companies including NetEffect, 3Com and Maxtor Corp. Mr. Hagerman holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and computer science and a master's in business administration from Santa Clara University.

Christopher Corman, Sitebrand Inc.'s president and chief executive officer, has been appointed to the company's board of directors to hold office until the next election of directors of the company. Mr. Corman, a 15-year veteran of the technology industry, most recently founded and led Shout Research Corp., a firm specializing in competitive web analytics and audience measurement research for Fortune 500 companies. Prior to founding Shout, he served as president and CEO of webHancer Corp.

Week of June 15

Andre Levasseur has been appointed senior vice-president of finance and chief financial officer for Zarlink Semiconductor. Most recently, Mr. Levasseur held the position of corporate comptroller. He has also served as senior director of finance in worldwide business support and director of finance for the network communications division. He joined the company in 1998 as director of finance/human resources/IS and plant controller for Mitel's foundry operations in Bromont, Que. Mr. Levasseur began his professional career at Arthur Andersen and Co., serving as a senior auditor.

Week of June 8

Nigel Gibson has been appointed Telesat's vice-president of international sales. Mr. Gibson held the position of vice-president of sales for Europe, Middle East and CIS at SES New Skies. Before joining SES New Skies, Mr. Gibson served as vice-president of sales for northern Europe with GlobeCast. Prior to GlobeCast, he was in the broadcasting industry as head of DTH marketing for Sky Television in the U.K. Mr. Gibson is a native of London, U.K. and was educated at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Adam Chowaniec has been appointed to OSI Geospatial Inc.'s board of directors. He is currently the chairman of the board of directors of Tundra Semiconductor, for which he was the founding CEO. He is the past chair of the Information Technology Association of Canada's board of directors and the Ontario Research and Innovation Council and was appointed to NSERC by the Privy Council of Canada. Mr. Chowaniec has had a scientific and business career during which he has held key positions with Bell Northern Research and Commodore International. Mr. Chowaniec has been recognized for his leadership, business excellence, and innovation, and has been honoured with the prestigious Chairman's Award by OCRI. He also received the Gold Business Person of the Year Award from the Greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. He currently sits on other boards of directors, including Zarlink and BelAir Networks and is an executive-in-residence at Vengrowth Capital Partners Inc. Mr. Chowaniec holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from Queen's University and a PhD of engineering from the University of Sheffield. His affiliations include the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario.

Week of June 1

Donald Boles has been appointed to the newly created position of vice-president of program development for Wi-LAN Inc. Mr. Boles has more than 25 years of experience in technology licensing, patent law and business law. For 12 years commencing in 1997, Mr. Boles was a key member of the InterDigital management and licensing team where he held senior positions including chief patent strategist and vice-president of intellectual property. Prior to InterDigital, Mr. Boles served in increasingly senior positions at Westinghouse Electric, AMP Inc., IBM and Siemens Corp. Mr. Boles holds an electrical engineering degree and is admitted to practise law in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Mr. Boles is expected to assume his duties at Wi-LAN on June 15.

Dragan Veljovic has joined WelchGroup Consulting as president and CEO. Mr. Veljovic brings more than 20 years of international leadership experience in the IT sector, including the last 16 years dealing with the federal government. Prior to joining WelchGroup, he was the founder and CEO of Maplesoft Consulting for 11 years. Previous experience included senior consulting roles at HRDC and Andersen Consulting. While at Maplesoft his company was honoured with the 2005 Silver Award for Professional Services of the Year by the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.

BreconRidge

Rahul Suri has been elected to BreconRidge Corp.'s board of directors. As a former executive at Celestica Corp., Mr. Suri brings a broad range of skills and industry knowledge to the board. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto and holds an MA in law from the University of Cambridge.

Michael Homer will be joining BreconRidge's executive leadership team as executive vice-president of operations and customer service. Previously, Mr. Homer held several senior positions in operations at Psion Teklogix, Celestica, Honeywell Canada, and Honeywell Aerospace. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from McGill University.

Lakhdip Singh Sidhu has been appointed to establish a Sciemetric Instruments branch office in India. Mr. Sidhu has held posts as head of sales and marketing of DURR Ecoclean, as well as senior management positions with Advani Oerlikon Ltd. and Vijayjyot Seats Ltd. Mr. Sidhu holds both engineering and MBA degrees.

Week of May 4

Nobina Robinson has been appointed chief executive officer of Polytechnics Canada. Ms. Robinson will provide leadership and direction to the alliance of Canada's largest colleges and institutes of technology, and will advance the cause of polytechnic education in Canada. She has represented Seneca College and its federal interests in Ottawa for the past four years. Her career experience spans a range of public policy issues, both domestic and international. Ms. Robinson previously worked for the Treasury Board Secretariat, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and was executive director of the Canadian Foundation for the Americas. She holds honours degrees from Amherst College and Oxford University.

Week of April 27

Keith Carter has joined StoneShare as a partner and vice-president of sales. He has spent the past 15 years in the National Capital Region and is well-known within the high-tech community. Prior to joining StoneShare, Mr. Carter was the vice-president of business development and Ottawa branch manager for Procom Consultants Group. His previous experience has also included board positions with the Information and Communications Technology Council and CATA. Mr. Carter is also a member of the U.S.-based Human Capital Institute, holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Western Ontario, and is a past member of The Leadership Forum associated with the University of Ottawa's Executive MBA program.

BTI Systems

William I. Campbell has been appointed to the company's board of directors. He is currently a senior adviser for JPMorgan Chase & Co. He serves as president of Sanoch Management, a consulting and investment firm for financial companies, startups and venture capital firms. Previously Mr. Campbell was chairman of Bank One Card Services. He also served as chairman of Visa International. Prior to this, Mr. Campbell was chief executive officer of Citigroup's global consumer business. He spent 28 years at Philip Morris, including five years as chief executive officer of Philip Morris USA. Mr. Campbell holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Alberta and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Western Ontario. He is a member of the Canadian Advisory Board to the Woodrow Wilson Institute.

J. Ian Giffen has also joined BTI Systems' board of directors, and will chair the audit committee. Mr. Giffen is currently an adviser/director to various technology companies and investment funds, including Descartes Systems Group, Corel Corp., MKS Inc., Absolute Software Inc. and Ruggedcom Inc. Previously, Mr. Giffen acted as an adviser/board member to Macromedia. He was also a member of other boards, and an adviser to numerous other companies, including DPS Inc., Sierra Systems Inc., Open Text Inc., Financial Models Inc., 724 Solutions Inc., Algorithmics Inc., DWL Inc., Changepoint Inc., and MGI Software Inc. Mr. Giffen holds a bachelor of arts in business administration from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Week of April 20

Steve Barnett has been appointed to OSI Geospatial's board of directors. He brings to OSI experience in the areas of strategic direction, operating efficiency and profitability, corporate finance, public company administration and accounting and corporate governance. Mr. Barnett is president of CDC, and an adviser to the senior management of Grayhill. He serves on the board of directors of inContact and Medis Technologies.

Jordan Grant has been appointed chairman of Seprotech Systems Inc., following the resignation of Justin Connidis. Mr. Grant and his companies, namely the Seaton Group, constitute the largest shareholdings of Seprotech.

Chris Corman has been appointed president and CEO of Sitebrand Inc. Mr. Corman replaces Justin Shimoon, who will continue to serve on the board of directors. Mr. Corman, a 15-year veteran of the technology industry, most recently founded and led Shout Research Corp., a firm specializing in competitive web analytics and audience measurement research for Fortune 500 companies. Prior to founding Shout, he served as president and CEO of webHancer Corp.

Peter Hunter will assume the position of chief financial officer for OSI Geospatial Inc. Mr. Hunter brings experience in the areas of strategic direction, acquisitions, divestitures, financing and operating efficiency and profitability. Over his 25-year career, he has held senior management positions in many companies across several industries, including aerospace and defence. Mr. Hunter holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Ottawa and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Week of April 6

Marc Desmarais has joined the Sussex Strategy Group Inc. to lead the company's federal government relations and strategic communications practice in Ottawa. For more than 25 years, Mr. Desmarais has worked in the National Capital Region in government relations, communications and politics. Immediately prior to joining Sussex, he worked for Genome Canada. There, he held the positions of vice-president of government relations and vice-president of communications. From 1999 to 2005, Mr. Desmarais was vice-president of government affairs for Rx&D, a national association representing Canada's research-based pharmaceutical companies. He served with the federal government as executive assistant to the minister of international co-operation and minister responsible for la francophonie from 1997-99. His previous experience also includes employment with the Canadian Medical Association as an associate director of public affairs and government relations, and Jouveinal Inc. as manager of government and external relations. In the 1980s and early 1990s, Mr. Desmarais worked in the House of Commons, the Senate of Canada, for a national political party and for the Sherbrooke Jets Hockey Club of the American Hockey League.

Michael Gaines has been appointed vice-president of marketing at Rove. Mr. Gaines brings more than 20 years of telecommunications and information technology experience to Rove. His past successes include leading the marketing team at MicroLegend Telecom Systems through four years of consecutive growth to a successful acquisition by Performance Technologies Inc. Mr. Gaines next led the marketing team at SS8 Networks as the company launched its innovative telecom services products in the early years of voice-over-Internet-Protocol deployment. He has a technical background that includes a degree in electrical engineering as well as many years of experience in enterprise software sales.

Week of March 30

Shawn Ryan has joined TK Group as a specialist in insurance and estate planning for professionals and owner/manager businesses. He is a member of the Financial Advisors Association of Canada (Advocis). Mr. Ryan holds his CFP designation, and also holds the designation of AIIC. He completed his Canadian Investments Funds course in 1999 and has worked in the financial services industry since 1987.

Joe Roberts has been hired as Corel Corp.'s interim executive vice-president of products. Mr. Roberts was president of Broderbund Software prior to its being sold to Riverdeep. At Riverdeep, Mr. Roberts served as president of worldwide products and marketing, where he was responsible for growing revenue to more than $270 million by extending the business into alternative media. After leaving Riverdeep, Mr. Roberts served as president of Cosmi Corp. Most recently he has provided strategic consulting services to a variety of software companies as president of J.D. Roberts Group. He holds a BA in economics from the University of California at Davis.

Tim A. Oakes has joined FCi as a new member of the business development team, with direct focus on new construction. Mr. Oakes has extensive marketing experience working with Ottawa's commercial real estate and general contracting industries. As an independent entrepreneur in this market for more than 15 years, he has an intimate understanding of all aspects of business development. Mr. Oakes is an active member of both the Ottawa Construction Association and the Building Owners and Managers Association.

Week of March 23

Jay McMillan has joined Energate as vice-president of sales and marketing. Prior to joining Energate, Mr. McMillan was vice-president of sales and marketing for Blue Line Innovations, where he worked with investor-owned, municipal and co-operative utilities across North America. He has 19 years of international sales, marketing and technical experience.

Tyler Nelson has been appointed as vice-president of marketing and business development for QNX Software Systems. Before joining QNX Software Systems, Mr. Nelson co-founded startup software vendor YOU i Labs. He previously served as vice-president of business development and marketing at Bridgewater Systems Corp. Prior to his work at Bridgewater Systems, Mr. Nelson held the position of vice-president of global business development at Research in Motion.

EMS SATCOM

Gary Hebb, EMS SATCOM's general manager since 2007, will now serve as vice-president of innovation and strategy. Prior to his GM appointment, Mr. Hebb served as vice-president of engineering and business development at EMS SATCOM. He joined the company as a satellite modem designed in 1990.

Joanne Walker will be replacing Mr. Hebb as general manager for EMS SATCOM. She has worked nearly two decades for EMS's Ottawa division, and most recently was corporate vice-president of business operations. Ms. Walker joined EMS in 1990, and has held progressively more responsible roles related to manufacturing, supply chain management and operations.
