Mitel is joining with BorderWare to lower another barrier to IP telephony, by making IP telephone services more secure.

Mitel says the new product will provide more robust, less expensive and simpler to manage security than standard industry solutions, opening the door to secure, low-cost delivery of business quality VoIP services carried over public IP networks.

The solution provides protection against spam over Internet telephony, denials of service, unauthorized registration and other types of VoIP attacks.

"This solution significantly lowers the cost of entry for service providers wishing to offer business-quality hosted voice services for SMBs," says Doug Michaelides, Mitel's vice-president of global marketing.

"We see this as an integration of expertise," added Tim Leisman, CEO of BorderWare. "Mitel's expertise in IP telephony is well known and well regarded, and they selected BorderWare based on our 12 years of experience and expertise in IP security. Together, we're delivering a hosted VoIP solution that is more secure, simpler to operate and radically more cost-effective for VoIP service providers."
