Ambercore Software has signed an agreement to license its 'point cloud' geospatial technology to California-based digital modelling giant Autodesk Inc., which will be using Ambercore's solution in its future releases of Autodesk software.
The Ottawa-based company said Autodesk, parent of the popular AutoCAD software, will incorporate the solution into its portfolio of geospatial and building information modelling software.
"Ambercore's point cloud software has been engineered to efficiently manipulate extremely large spatial data," said CEO Martin Sendyk in a statement. "With the increasing proliferation of 3D sensing equipment and the resultant point cloud data, the ability to extract intelligence from massive 3D data sets is more important than ever. We are very excited to be solving this challenge with an innovative company like Autodesk."
Ambercore's technology helps customers read, organize and quickly retrieve the extremely large data files called point clouds which are created in high-definition land surveying, laser scanning or LIDAR (light detection and ranging), allowing them to better build high-precision 3D models.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
