UPDATE: DMTI Spatial launches in Ottawa
By Elizabeth Howell, Ottawa Business Journal Staff

A new satellite office for Markham's DMTI Spatial opened in Ottawa on Friday, with expectations its current staff of two employees will rapidly expand.

Company spokesperson Kristina Cleary said Ottawa is a high-growth region for the company as it furnishes growing demand from not only government clients, but also location intelligence analysts.

"The (Ottawa) office is currently focused on providing both sales and customer service," she said. "Research and development will be centralized and therefore will continue to be out of our Toronto office."

The privately owned company, which will have an office at the Minto Business Centre on Laurier Avenue, is dedicated to providing location services for applications ranging from oil prospecting to media marketing.

In addition, DMTI has a partnership with Canada's academic community to give affordable access to maps for education in business, social sciences, and geographic research.

DMTI also joined an independent software alliance program for BlackBerry vendors earlier this week. The program will provide customers of that mobile service with real-time geographic information for tracking vehicles or finding real-estate assets.
