In-car navigation and entertainment systems will take a step forward under the terms of a deal between Ottawa-based QNX Software Systems and Renesas Technology Corp., the two companies said in a statement Monday.
Because car systems are getting too complex for conventional single processors, the companies will work with the Renesas SH7786 multi-core processor to handle systems such as 3-D navigation units.
QNX's Momentics development suite will debug and optimize the processor.
The announcement comes a month after QNX said it is partnering with India's Global Edge Software Ltd. to give QNX access to Internet protocol technologies, supplementing its telecom devices.
Japan-based Renesas develops automotive and wireless technologies, while QNX creates development tools, operating systems and other products for embedded systems.
