Wi-LAN Inc. has added LG Electronics to the list of large companies it is suing for infringing on its wireless patents.
The Ottawa-based patent licensing company said it has amended its complaint, launched on June 20 in the U.S. district court for the eastern district of Texas, to include LG Electronics Inc. and LG Electronics Mobilecomm U.S.A. Inc. as defendants.
The lawsuit already names Motorola Inc., Research in Motion Corp., Research in Motion Ltd. and California's UTStarCom Inc. as defendants.
Wi-LAN claims that all defendants have infringed and continue to infringe its U.S. wireless patents RE37,802 and 5,282,222 by making and/or selling products including mobile handheld devices and other equipment.
LG is one of the top five ranked cellphone makers in the world, according to a 2007 report by iSuppli.
Wi-LAN continues to be represented in this action by U.S. law firm McKool Smith.
