Ottawa's Enablence Technologies Inc., a supplier of fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) equipment for residences and businesses, announced Monday the installation of its proprietary Trident7 Universal Access Platform for fibre-to-the-business (FTTB) networks in central Taiwan.
Enablence's technology will be operated by the Taiwan Optical Platform Group (TOP), central Taiwan's largest multi-systems operator, to service areas of more than 600,000 homes in major cities within central Taiwan. The company's first deployment of a FTTx network will employ Enablence Technologies's Trident7 IEEE 802.3 GE-PON (EFM PON) standard Compact OLT (COLT) platform, to offer triple-play services for residential and business customers in apartments and offices.
The targeted service area, said TOP, will be more than 300 buildings with 20 to 60 subscribers in each building.
Enablence's stock price on the TSX, which hit a low of around $1.10 per share earlier in June, rose from $1.53 per share at the opening bell on Monday to close at around $1.55 per share.
"We are thrilled to be working with TOP through our system-integration partner in Taiwan, Hiway Broadband Co., Ltd. in Taiwan. This project illustrates how the Trident7 platform is gaining traction not only in the U.S., but also internationally," said Arvind Chhatbar, CEO of Enablence, in a statement. "This is a key milestone for Enablence as we integrate our components into its FTTx Network Division Products," added Chhatbar.
In a separate announcement, the company said it had also deployed the Trident7 solution to production customers with Servei de Telecommunications d'Andorra (STA), replacing an older copper DSL network in support of triple-play data, Internet protocol-based television and voice-over-Internet-protocol services.
The new all-fibre network, for which STA begun full-scale production deployment on May 5, is expected to provide advanced IP services to more than 45,000 residential and business customers throughout the western European country.
Both deals are the first fruits of Enablence's recent $14-million acquisition of Trident7 parent company Wave7 Optics, which was completed in May. The purchase was Enablence's third such deal in less than two years, following its March 2007 acquisition of Swiss photodiode maker Albis Optoelectronics and its Feb. 2008 buy of optical wafer maker ANDevices Inc.
