Algonquin College has received its largest single donation from the provincial government to help build a new 142,000-square-foot centre for construction trades and building sciences.

The province announced today it would be investing $35 million in the Ottawa college to create 600 spots for new students in architecture, engineering and interior design.

The new centre, which is estimated to cost $69 million in total, is part of the first phase of a proposed $135-million campus expansion for the college.

Algonquin College is also planning to spend $32 million to build a new campus in Pembroke.
