OSI Geospatial has signed its largest deal with the U.S. army, a five-year US$10-million contract through its U.S. systems operations division.

The Ottawa-based navigational systems maker said it will be providing its land-based command-and-control products and engineering services in support of U.S. army operational requirements.

While the deal is not the largest in the company's history, it is the biggest contract with this long-time customer, which recently also awarded another $1.6-million deal with OSI Geospatial.

"Our relationship has allowed for the exceptional progress in the development of our land-based command-and-control products and, specifically, our small unit situational awareness system," said OSI Geospatial chief executive Ken Kirkpatrick in a statement. "The development of relationships and products such as these is critical to our growth strategy and this contract underscores the progress that we are making."

The company added that the new contract could be a stepping stone to developing future opportunities in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, especially with the worldwide ramp-up of more than 20 soldier modernization programs to reduce casualties and increase readiness for future operations.
