Roy Mlakar

The Ottawa Senators's Roy Mlakar is Ottawa Business Journal's CEO of the Year for 2008. During his 12-year tenure as president and CEO, Mr. Mlakar has worked diligently to improve the fortunes of the club and increase its exposure throughout the region and around the NHL.

He has overseen a steady rise in revenues and profitability, increased the valuation of the franchise and significantly contributed to charitable causes.

He is the ninth recipient of the CEO of the Year Award, following in the footsteps of many of the city's top chief executives, including Rod Bryden, George Cwynar, Ron Zambonini, Richard L'Abbe, Roger Greenberg, Peter Strom and Kevin Dee and David Dobson.

He was selected by a committee chaired by OBJ publisher Michael Curran, OCRI president Jeffrey Dale and past award recipients.

2008 CEO OF THE YEAR GALA

Mr. Mlakar will be celebrated at a gala dinner at the Canadian War Museum on Friday, Oct. 10. The event will include cocktails, gourmet dinner, a tribute to the CEO of the Year, a live band and dancing.

Proceeds from a charity draw will benefit the Ottawa Senators Foundation's charity of choice, Roger's House. To date, the CEO of the Year Gala has raised more than $70,000 for local charities.
