Gatineau's SolaCom Technologies has won another Caribbean deal with its Liberty-STAR system.

SolaComsaid the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) in Christ Church, Barbados had selected its Liberty-STAR voice communication control system (VCCS) small tower solution, which enables interoperability over any network infrastructure, as part of the airport's $100-million upgrade and expansion.

"SolaCom has developed a cost-effective, integrated communications solution for small towers that provides all the voice communications, weather and time equipment required by the air traffic controller (ATC) to effectively and safely provide air traffic separation," stated Pierre Plangger, SolaCom's vice-president of ATC sales and marketing. "Our small tower solution was designed with airport like the GAIA in mind. SolaCom's team of engineers, technicians and trainers will ensure that this system gets installed on time, to spec, and within budget."

SolaCom will be providing the airport with a solution that has 11 touch-screen operator positions, 32 radio interfaces and 30 telephone interfaces, and it will also be delivering and installing the system and training the airport's crew to use it.

The airport is located about 30 minutes from Bridgetown and can serve more than 2.5 million people with its new upgrades.

SolaCom also has its system installed in airports in Aruba, Chile and Maryland.
