Cognos has signed a deal to provide its business intelligence and performance management software to the Major League Baseball Players Association.

The association, which is the collective bargaining representative for all active Major League Baseball players has chosen IBM Cognos TM1 Executive Viewer to help analyze data such as player performance statistics.

"The interface for analysis will provide sophisticated users with the tools they're familiar with and the ability to quickly modify views and reports with as little effort as possible," stated Doug Barton, Cognos vice-president of product marketing. "Users of IBM Cognos TM1 Executive Viewer continue to gravitate to its features that provide interactivity, immediacy and flexibility, which, in turn, enable them to accelerate the management of their business's performance."

The union represents all 1,200 baseball players of the 30 Major League Baseball teams.

The association will be implementing the Executive Viewer with the help of Cognos partner Decision Systems to provide baseball agents with self-service views and reports and perform ad hoc analysis on different scenarios with nearly immediate answers.
