Semiconductor Insights (SI) has found a new leader to carry the torch eight months after the tragic demise of founder Doug Smeaton.
The Ottawa-based company, which reverse-engineers and analyzes integrated circuits and electronic systems, said it has appointed former Meriton Networks Inc. executive Harry Page as its new president.
Mr. Page will report to Paul Miller, president of media company CMP's electronics division. Manhasset, N.Y.-based CMP bought SI in July for $26 million as part of its strategy to expand beyond its print and online technology publications such as TechOnline and EE Times.
"Having previously worked for Symagery Microsystems, an SI sister company, Harry brings a thorough understanding of SI's clients, market, value proposition and culture," said Mr. Miller in a statement. "This will be an invaluable asset to drive the tremendous synergies between our respective organizations."
Mr. Page has 25 years of experience in the telecommunications and microelectronics industries, having worked at Newbridge Networks, Mitel and Bell Northern Research. He comes to Semiconductor Insights from his most recent position as Meriton's vice-president of network services.
Mr. Page also holds several patents in the area of mobile computing image capture and processing.
"I had a close personal and professional relationship with SI's late president and CEO, Dr. Doug Smeaton, that extended over three decades," said Mr. Page. "Doug was a mentor to me and I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead SI and to build upon his legacy with CMP."
Mr. Smeaton, who passed away in February in a drowning accident in the St. Lawrence River, had been planning the CMP-SI deal before his death in 2007. He bought SI in 1994 from its U.S. owners and had served as the company's CEO since 1992.
