Tundra Semiconductor Corp. has had its RapidIO interconnect device selected by leading advanced embedded solutions provider RadiSys Corp. for use in its new telecommunications system card.

Ottawa-based Tundra's Tsi578 Serial RapidIO Switch, which helps transport data signals between computer components, has been used in the new RadiSys Promentum Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA)-9100 Media Resource module. The RadiSys module is a plug-and-play platform which helps telecom equipment manufacturers save time and costs in the design and development of high-performance networking gear for digital signal processing (DSP) in multimedia and communications applications.

"RadiSys selection of the Tsi578 demonstrates the advantages of high performance, hardware multicast, low power and latency that RapidIO enables in demanding communications applications," said Tundra Semiconductor chief technology officer Benny Chang in a statement. "The Tsi578 optimizes DSP performance by enabling the digital signal processors to focus on the media processing instead of interconnect termination. Like RadiSys, many of our tier-one customers are choosing Tundra Serial Rapid IO switches for their wireless baseband, voice-over-Internet-protocol, media processing and media gateways solutions that require proven DSP aggregation to gain superior processing performance."

The Tsi578 product supports connectivity between embedded computer systems devices for a variety of applications, including wireline networking, medical imaging and military image and signal processing in aerospace avionics.
