Bombardier Transportation has won a 419-million-euro contract to supply 100 trains to RENFE, the Spanish National Railways.
The company will be providing the Spanish railway with TRAXX F140 DC locomotives, with delivery of the trains beginning in the second half of 2008 and continuing until 2010.
The contract includes a 14-year maintenance service agreement. Bombardier will manufacture some of the trains in Villaverde, near Madrid, as well as producing propulsion systems in Spain at its Trapaga facility.
"This success confirms the strong role that Bombardier is currently playing in the development of Spain's rail system," said Jose Caparros, Bombardier's chief Spanish representative. "It is also a source of pride for the national railway industry as our offer adds high value to the country's economy and technological progress."
Bombardier Transportation employs more than 500 people in Spain's rail industry.
